Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Paul writes to Corinthians who were known for sexual immorality, division, and spiritual pride. "In Christ" means united with Jesus through faith — like being submerged into a new identity. This isn't self-improvement but complete transformation. The old patterns, shame, and defining labels don't just fade; they're crucified with Christ, and you emerge with a fundamentally new nature and future.
Jesus, thank you that my worst moment doesn't define me — your resurrection does. Help me stop digging through the trash of who I was and start living as who you've made me to be. Amen.
You know that junk drawer everyone has? Full of dead batteries, mystery keys, and expired coupons? Paul's saying your old self — the one defined by your worst moment, your family dysfunction, your secret addiction — got cleaned out. Not organized better, not given a fresh coat of paint, but completely replaced. The junk drawer became a jewelry box. But here's the kicker: we keep rummaging through the trash convinced that's still who we are. We introduce ourselves by our worst chapter instead of our new creation status. What would change if you actually believed the old has gone? Maybe you'd stop rehearsing that failure at 3 AM. Maybe you'd risk forgiveness because you're not the same person who was hurt. Maybe you'd stop living like you're still in prison after the doors have been blown open. Your new creation isn't potential — it's present reality waiting to be lived into.
What 'old' things do you keep identifying with even though Paul says they're gone?
How is being a 'new creation' different from just becoming a better version of yourself?
If you're truly a new creation, why do old patterns still show up sometimes?
How should this affect the way you see other Christians who are struggling?
What's one area where you can start living from your new identity instead of your old one this week?
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
