Genesis 1:9

In the biblical creation account, this is day three — and the earth is still covered entirely in water. God speaks a single command, and the waters gather, dry land rises, and coastlines take shape. Nothing resists him. Nothing negotiates. The world takes shape because he speaks, and it is immediately so.

Lord, you brought solid ground out of endless water with nothing but your word. Where my life feels shapeless and unstable, speak again. I don't need to understand the how or the when — I just need to trust the one who calls dry land into being. Help me stand on what you've already made firm. Amen.

There's something quietly stunning about land rising out of a covered, formless world — no argument, no struggle, no visible effort. God speaks, and geography obeys. Coastlines form. Soil becomes solid. The waters that filled everything simply make room. We tend to assume that order requires effort — a fight, a push, a long process of forcing things into place. The relationship that won't stabilize. The future you can't get solid footing on. The grief that keeps moving under you. This verse doesn't promise God will always work fast, or that you'll understand his timing. But it reveals something important about who he is: he's the kind of God who calls dry ground out of nothing — not by straining, but by speaking. Whatever feels formless and unresolvable to you today, he has already spoken into harder situations than yours and watched the waters part. That's worth sitting with.
