Hebrews 10:21

In ancient Jewish worship, a High Priest served as the sole go-between for God and the people — the only person allowed to enter the most sacred room of the Temple, called the Holy of Holies, to make offerings for sin on behalf of everyone else. The book of Hebrews, written to Jewish Christians, makes the case that Jesus is the ultimate High Priest — not limited by death or the need for repeated sacrifices, but living forever and securing permanent access to God. The "house of God" here refers not to a building but to God's people. Knowing Jesus holds this role means we have a tireless, living advocate before God — one who fully understands human life because he lived it himself.

Lord, I often forget I have a priest — someone already speaking on my behalf before you. Thank you that Jesus holds that place, not because I've earned it, but because he stepped into it and stays. Help me live like someone who is truly heard and truly welcome. Amen.

Think about what it meant to have a connection — someone on the inside. In ancient Israel, that's exactly what the High Priest was: one man, one day a year, crossing the threshold between the everyday and the holy. Everyone else waited outside. But this verse says something has changed. We have a great priest — present tense, ongoing, yours. Jesus isn't serving office hours. He doesn't clock out, and he doesn't grow tired of showing up on your behalf. When you feel unworthy to pray — when your life is tangled or your record isn't clean — remember you have someone already in the room. Not because you earned the right, but because he took the role and holds it without wavering. You don't have to figure out how to get God's attention, find the perfect words, or clean yourself up first. You already have an advocate. The question isn't whether you're welcome. You are.
