Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
This moment happens when Isaiah sees God in the temple and realizes he's completely unworthy. After an angel touches his lips with a hot coal - symbolizing God's forgiveness - Isaiah overhears God asking who will deliver his message to Israel. No one is specifically asking Isaiah; he's volunteering in response to grace. This is about being willing to go wherever God sends you after experiencing his cleansing love.
Holy God, I come undone before you. Touch my unclean lips, my fearful heart. When you ask 'who will go,' don't let me hide behind my inadequacy. Here I am - use me in the places I'd rather avoid. Amen.
Isaiah didn't raise his hand during worship service - he was wrecked and undone, catching pieces of a conversation not meant for his ears. He'd just encountered a God so holy that even angels covered their faces, and somehow he'd survived. His 'send me' wasn't heroic; it was the only possible response to being chosen while covered in his own mess. You've experienced moments like this too. After the forgiveness you didn't deserve, after the cancer scan came back clear, after the relationship was restored - didn't you whisper something about wanting to live differently? The question isn't whether God needs your specific skills. The question is whether you'll stay available after grace finds you. Your 'here am I' might mean moving overseas or it might mean moving toward the neighbor you've been avoiding. Both require the same terrifying trust.
Why does Isaiah volunteer only after his sin is forgiven? How does grace fuel mission?
When have you experienced a 'holy moment' that made you want to say 'send me'? What happened?
What part of your life feels 'unclean' right now, preventing you from feeling usable by God?
How might your willingness to be sent change how your kids/friends see following Jesus?
What's one uncomfortable place God might be nudging you toward this month? What's stopping you?
And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
