Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Jesus is responding to the Pharisees' question about when God's kingdom will arrive. They expected a visible political movement with armies and banners. Jesus flips their expectations completely — the kingdom isn't coming with observable signs because it's already here, operating quietly inside people. The word "within" can also mean "among" — pointing to how God's presence shows up in community when people live Jesus' way together. He's describing an upside-down kingdom that starts small, like yeast in dough, changing everything from the inside out.
Jesus, I confess I keep looking for You in the earthquake and missing You in the whisper. Open my eyes to where You're already at work — in my small kindnesses, in my unnoticed prayers, in the spaces I'd written off as too ordinary for glory. Help me live like Your kingdom is actually here, right now. Amen.
Think about how you look for God in your life. Maybe you scan the headlines for miraculous events, or wait for lightning-bolt clarity about your calling, or assume you'll feel something dramatic when you're finally 'spiritual enough.' Jesus says He's already here, hiding in plain sight like your neighbor who always waves but you never really see. The kingdom within you shows up in small, almost embarrassingly ordinary ways: the impulse to text the friend you can't stop thinking about, the moment you bite back the harsh comeback, the quiet satisfaction of choosing integrity over convenience. These aren't warm-up acts for the real spiritual life — they ARE the spiritual life. You don't have to chase God's kingdom across continents or into the next spiritual conference. You just have to notice what's already growing like dandelions through concrete cracks in your actual Tuesday afternoon.

What's one ordinary moment this week where you can practice noticing God's presence instead of waiting for something spectacular?
