Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
Under Jewish law, a woman with a bleeding condition was considered ritually unclean — meaning physical contact with her could transfer that uncleanness to others. Knowingly touching someone in a crowd while in this state would have been considered a violation of religious law, and could expose her to social rebuke or worse. Despite this, she approached Jesus from behind and touched just the very edge — the fringe — of his outer garment. It was small, quiet, and almost secret. And in that instant, the bleeding that had defined twelve years of her life stopped. Not gradually — immediately and completely.
Lord, some days my faith is barely a reach — a quiet, unpolished hope that maybe you'll notice. Thank you for being the kind of God who responds to that. Help me keep stretching toward you, even when I feel invisible and unworthy. Amen.
She didn't ask for an appointment. She didn't raise her hand or clear her throat or explain her situation. After twelve years of closed doors and disappointing treatments, maybe a secret touch from behind was all the faith she had left — barely enough to act on, but enough to move her feet forward. And it was enough. This matters more than it might seem at first. She didn't come with polished, confident faith. She came with desperate, anonymous, barely-holding-together faith — and Jesus didn't require anything more before responding. You don't need a well-formed prayer or the right theological vocabulary before reaching toward him. You don't need to have sorted out your doubts first. Sometimes faith looks like a trembling hand stretching out in a crowd, not entirely sure anyone will notice. It turns out, that kind of faith moves something too.
Why do you think this woman approached Jesus from behind, anonymously, rather than calling out to him directly — what does that tell you about where she was emotionally and spiritually?
Think of a moment when your faith felt tiny or desperate rather than strong. How did God respond to you in that space?
This woman broke social and religious rules to reach Jesus. What does that suggest about how Jesus relates to people who exist on the edges of religious community?
How do you treat people whose struggles make them feel socially untouchable — isolated, stigmatized, or quietly avoided?
What's one concrete, small act of faith you could take this week, even if it feels insufficient or awkward?

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
