Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
The book of Revelation is a vision the apostle John received while exiled on a Roman island called Patmos, written to encourage Christians facing intense persecution. In this scene, John witnesses a heavenly throne room filled with thousands upon thousands of angels, creatures, and elders gathered around 'the Lamb' — a title for Jesus Christ that connects him to the Jewish tradition of offering lambs as sacrifices to God. Jesus is described as the Lamb 'who was slain,' pointing directly to his crucifixion. The crowd erupts in a sevenfold song — power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise — and the number seven in Hebrew culture signified completeness, meaning Jesus deserves everything, without limit.
Jesus, you are worthy — not just because of what you've done for me, but because of who you are. Reorient my heart around your worth today, especially when the noise around me is loud about everything else. Let my life be a small echo of that great roar. Amen.
There's nothing quiet about this scene. It isn't a hushed chapel with candles — it's a roar. Thousands upon thousands of voices, all at once, naming what Jesus is worthy to receive. And notice who receives it: not a conquering general, not someone who seized a throne, but a Lamb who was slain. Heaven's loudest, most staggering celebration is reserved for someone who bled. That is a stunning reversal of everything the world considers powerful. We live surrounded by voices that tell us power looks like dominance — louder platforms, more leverage, more force. And here is heaven, thundering in worship of self-giving love. That changes the math. The cross wasn't a detour on the way to glory — it *is* the glory. So when your own quiet sacrifice goes unnoticed — the invisible labor, the faithful showing-up, the cost no one sees — remember that heaven keeps a different ledger than the world does. And one day, the roar will make sense of it all.
Why do you think Jesus is called 'the Lamb' rather than 'the King' or 'the Conqueror' in this worship scene — and what does that choice of image communicate about what heaven values?
What does it mean to you personally that Jesus is described as *worthy* — not just powerful or important, but deserving of everything?
The seven things listed — power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, praise — are things humans spend their lives chasing. What does it mean that they all ultimately belong to Jesus?
How might keeping this vision of Jesus in mind — as the one truly worthy of all things — change the way you relate to the people around you this week?
If you genuinely believed Jesus was worthy of everything in your life — your time, your money, your ambitions — what is one specific thing you would do differently starting tomorrow?
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
