And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
This verse comes from John's apocalyptic vision in Revelation, chapter 7. John watches as a vast crowd — so enormous it cannot be counted — gathers before God's throne. These are people from every nation, tribe, and language on earth. Together they cry out that salvation doesn't belong to any king, empire, army, or human system — it belongs to God and to 'the Lamb,' a title for Jesus. In Jewish religious practice, lambs were offered as sacrifices for sin, and this title points to Jesus' death as the ultimate sacrifice. It is a declaration of total allegiance and profound gratitude.
God, I confess how often I act like salvation is mine to manage — like I can fix myself, secure myself, prove myself worthy. Thank you that it doesn't work that way. Today I want to add my voice to that uncountable crowd and mean it: salvation belongs to you. Amen.
Six words. No footnotes, no qualifications, no competing claims: 'Salvation belongs to our God.' In a world stacked with voices telling you that what saves you is your productivity, your reputation, your ability to hold everything together — this crowd just shouts right through it. What strikes me is who's shouting. Not a theological committee. Not people who had it all figured out before they arrived. It's an uncountable multitude from every corner of the earth — different languages, different histories, different everything — and somehow they're all saying the same thing. Whatever divided them there doesn't divide them here. And the one thing they agree on isn't a creed or a set of rules. It's a declaration of where their rescue came from. You don't need your theology perfectly polished to join that chorus. You just have to be honest that you didn't save yourself — and neither did anything else you tried.
What does it mean, in a practical day-to-day sense, that 'salvation belongs to our God' — rather than to a church, a system, or your own efforts?
When do you most feel the pull to rely on yourself for rescue or security — to be your own salvation — instead of trusting God?
This verse pictures people from every nation united in a single declaration. What tensions does that create with how the church actually looks today, divided and sometimes in opposition?
How might genuinely believing that your rescue came entirely from God change the way you relate to people whose faith background or life story looks nothing like yours?
What is one area of your life, right now, where you need to actively release control and trust that salvation — that rescue — belongs to God and not to you?
