But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
King James Version

Meaning

Jesus said this after his disciples tried to shoo away parents bringing children for blessing—a common practice where rabbios would pray over kids. The disciples likely thought they were protecting Jesus' time for "real" ministry. But Jesus flips the script: children aren't distractions from kingdom business; they ARE kingdom business. In ancient culture, children had zero status, yet Jesus says God's kingdom belongs to people who approach him with the same helpless dependence kids show.

Prayer

Jesus, I've gotten good at adulting my way to you. Teach me to climb into your lap like a child who doesn't check if they've earned it. Help me unlearn the posture of proving and relearn the art of receiving. Amen.

Reflection

Picture a toddler reaching up with sticky fingers, absolutely certain someone will lift them. No resume, no impressive prayer vocabulary, just pure trust that they're wanted. That's what Jesus is after—not you becoming childish, but you becoming childlike enough to stop proving your worth and start receiving love. When did you last approach God empty-handed? Not with your carefully crafted request list or spiritual achievements, but like a kid who hasn't learned the art of self-protection yet. The kingdom isn't for those who've figured it all out—it's for those exhausted from trying to figure it out who finally collapse into arms that were always open.
