She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
The "she" here is wisdom, personified as a woman throughout Proverbs. This isn't just being smart — biblical wisdom is skill for living well, making good choices, and understanding how life actually works. Rubies were the most valuable gems in the ancient world. The writer is saying wisdom makes you richer than the richest person, but in ways that actually matter.
God, I'm surrounded by voices telling me what to chase. Give me eyes to see wisdom when she shows up, even when she's dressed in humility and patience. Make me rich in the ways that actually matter, even if I look foolish to everyone else. Amen.
You know that thing you want so badly it keeps you up at night? The promotion, the relationship, the house, the apology you've rehearsed in your head? Solomon says you're chasing the wrong treasure. Not because those things are bad, but because there's something better that makes them look like costume jewelry next to real diamonds. The tricky part is that wisdom often shows up looking like the opposite of what you want. She looks like having that uncomfortable conversation instead of ghosting. Like admitting you were wrong when you could win the argument. Like waiting when everything in you wants to rush ahead. She's never the easy choice, but she's always the choice that ages well.
